In late August, as summer begins to soften and the air turns contemplative, the festival of Teej arrives—not with monsoon rains, but with memory, music, and meaning. Though far from the temples and courtyards of Nepal, the spirit of Teej rises here in Virginia, carried by women whose devotion knows no borders.
This year, I reflect on “Stairs”—not just as physical steps, but as symbols of ascent. These stairs, captured in our photos, hold more than footsteps. They cradle rituals, laughter, and legacy. They become altars of intention, stages of celebration, and bridges between generations.
Women dressed in red gather with trays of offerings—silver vessels, sweets, incense—each item placed with reverence. Children smile on the steps, absorbing tradition through joy. Families stand together, framed by white railings and shared blessings. These are the stairs of Teej: where devotion climbs, and culture stands tall.
Teej in the diaspora is not a replica—it is a renewal. It is the blending of heritage with new soil, the echo of ancient songs in modern spaces. And in every step we take—upward, inward, together—we honor the strength of women, the grace of tradition, and the beauty of carrying faith wherever we go.

“यी सिँढीहरू जस्तै हाम्रो श्रद्धा पनि उचाइतिर बढोस्—शरीरले व्रत धारण गरुन्, मनले प्रेम बाँडोस्, र परम्पराले हामीलाई सधैं जोडिरहोस्। हरितालिका तीजको पावन अवसरमा सम्पूर्ण परिवारमा सुख, शान्ति र समृद्धिको कामना।”
May our devotion rise like these stairs—may the body embrace discipline, the heart share love, and tradition forever bind us together. Wishing peace, prosperity, and joy to your entire family on this sacred occasion of Haritalika Teej.
Thank you for being part of this ongoing journey through light, memory, and quiet beauty. Through Sharleen’s lens, we continue to uncover the subtle magic hidden in everyday horizons. Every image shared adds to the story we’re telling—one frame at a time.
Until next time, may the stillness guide you, and the light always find its way to your view.
